PHOENIX — A man armed with a gun in a Peoria RV resort park was fatally shot by three police officers Saturday night, authorities said.
Officers responded to a report of a man, Richard Schaare, 74, who was physical with a family member and had threatened to shoot them around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, the Peoria Police Department said in a press release.
When officers arrived at Pleasant Harbor RV Resort, Schaare had a gun in his hand and entered into his RV. Minutes later, he walked to the open front door and pointed his weapon at the officers.
Each officer responded by firing one round at the suspect, the police department said.
Medical personnel and officers attempted life saving measures but Schaare died from his injuries.
No officers or bystanders involved were injured during the incident.
The Glendale Police Department has taken over the investigation in this case as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team.
