Avondale inviting public to tour new $12.4 million fire station next weekend

PHOENIX — Avondale is giving residents the opportunity to tour the city’s newest fire station next weekend.

Fire Station 175, located on Van Buren Street near Dysart Road, will be open to the public on March 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the city said in a press release.

People will be able to get a first look at the $12.4 million, 17,000-square-foot West Valley facility, which was completed in February.

The city’s fifth fire station will have three bays, office space, sleeping quarters, a kitchen/dining room, training area, exercise room and spaces for public service outreach programs.

“Fire Station 175 … is strategically located to ensure efficient response times to serve our community of 90,000 residents,” Avondale Chief of Public Safety Dale Nannenga said in the release.

Avondale hired 14 firefighters to staff the station through a $3 million Federal Emergency Management Administration grant awarded in 2020.

The city is also hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 24 to celebrate the new station.
