PHOENIX — Phoenix is offering a $2,500 incentive as the city is looking to hire hundreds of lifeguards for the 2022 season.
Eligible lifeguards will receive a $500 bonus on their first paycheck and a one-time payment of $2,000 at the end of the season, according to a press release.
Employees have to work the entire summer and finish in good standing to receive the one-time payment.
“This is a serious job that’s crucial to child safety. Lifeguards save the lives of hundreds of children and are also responsible for thousands of swim lessons every summer,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in the release.
Phoenix plans to open as many of its 29 public pools as soon as possible if staffing levels are reached.
“This incentive is an investment in child safety in the immediate and long term, likely saving lives directly and indirectly,” Gallego said.
Certification is available through StarGuard Training and costs $20.
Applicants also must be at least 15 years old. Pay starts at $14.02 an hour.
