PHOENIX — A 19-year-old Arizona State University student was arrested on Monday after materials used to make explosives were found in his Tempe dorm room, authorities said.
Logan Reynolds was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and charged with two counts of misconduct involving weapons, the university’s police department said in a press release.
A student told the ASU Police Department that another student might be building explosives in his residence hall at Palo Verde East near University Drive and Rural Road.
Officers responded to the residence hall and evacuated the fifth floor as a precaution, authorities said, with police K9s and the Tempe Police Department Bomb Squad removing any potential explosives.
“I commend the student who filed the initial report,” ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson said in the release.
“We always say, ‘if you see something, say something.’ This student saw a situation they were uncomfortable with, and followed their instincts.”
All materials were impounded by the Tempe Police Department.
Reynolds, a chemistry major from Santa Barbara, California, allegedly said he made the devices for entertainment purposes and that he had no ill intentions.
He is scheduled to appear in court on March 18.
