PHOENIX — If you’ve taken flight recently, you may have noticed you’re allowing for extra time to travel as airport lines continue to get longer.
In January, more than 3 million people traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, 78.6% higher than last January when there were 1.68 million travelers, Heather Shelbrack, an airport spokesperson, told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Numbers fell short of pre-pandemic levels overall in 2021 with about 38 million people traveling through Sky Harbor. In 2019, a record-breaking 46 million people traveled through the Phoenix airport.
Other than what appears to be a slight return to normalcy, the weather and events across Phoenix in March typically continues to attracts travelers, Shelbrack said.
“We’re still anticipating to be busy this March with spring break and spring travel, both people coming to Arizona as well as people going elsewhere, March is typically one of our busiest times of the year,” Shelbrack said.
