Police investigating afternoon shootout in Avondale parking lot

PHOENIX – Avondale police are investigating a shootout between the occupants of two vehicles that injured at least one person Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. in a parking lot near Indian School Road and 107th Avenue, the Avondale Police Department said in a press release.

Witnesses told responding officers that gunfire was exchanged between a Jeep Liberty SUV and a Nissan Altima before the vehicles fled the area.

A person from the Jeep was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Officers found the Jeep at the hospital and processed it for evidence.

No other details were made available.
