PHOENIX – With golf fans flocking to the annual WM Phoenix Open activities this week in north Scottsdale, motorists should expect more congestion than usual on the Loop 101 Pima Freeway.
Tournament-related traffic will be heaviest Wednesday-Sunday in the mornings and late afternoons, especially at the Loop 101 interchanges between Scottsdale Road and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The Annexus Pro-Am is Wednesday’s featured event, and the main tournament tees off Thursday. Concerts at the Birds Nest party tent are set for Wednesday-Saturday nights.
Commuters who aren’t attending the tournament should plan for longer travel times or seek out routes that avoid the area.
TPC Scottsdale, the tournament site, is located north of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard between Scottsdale and Hayden roads, but attendees can take advantage of free offsite parking options with shuttle service.
The primary remote Lot W is at WestWorld of Scottsdale, south of Bell Road and east of the Loop 101. Shuttles are scheduled to operate there Wednesday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Lot W also has a ride share pickup/drop-off area.
Lot H off Hayden Road at Mayo Boulevard, south of the Loop 101, is open all week but with limited availability, with shuttle service from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Another parking option will open at Salt River Fields once the main tournament begins. Shuttles between the spring training facility at Loop 101 and Via de Ventura and TPC Scottsdale will run Thursday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
