Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale revs up nearly $9 million for charities

Jan 31, 2022, 11:30 AM | Updated: 12:27 pm

PHOENIX – People who love fancy, pricey cars got their fill at Barrett-Jackson and helped the auction bring in more than $8.8 million for charity, organizers announced Sunday.

The 50th anniversary edition of the Scottsdale auction began Jan. 22 and ended Sunday. The charity hauls included $3.6 million for the first 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 70th edition and $500,000 for music star Pitbull’s custom 2022 Karma GS-6. Both sales were Saturday.

Proceeds from the sale of the Corvette will go to Operation Homefront, which supports veterans and military families; earnings from Pitbull’s luxury sedan sale will go to children’s charities, Selfless Love and SLAM foundations.

“It was an absolute honor to share our auction block with some of the world’s most influential artists and business leaders, including Pitbull, Bret Michaels and Henry Ford III to raise both funds and awareness for many worthy causes,” Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, said in a press release Sunday.

Over 300 vehicles were sold during the event. Buyers put down over $1 million apiece on 10 noncharity cars, topped by a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT that went for $1.98 million.
