Phoenix Fire Department crews assist two hikers on Camelback Mountain

PHOENIX — Rescue teams had a busy day on Camelback Mountain, rescuing two hikers who needed assistance to make their way back down the Echo Canyon Trail on Saturday.
Firefighters assisted a 27-year-old woman who experienced dehydration halfway up the trail and passed out, according to a release.
Rescue crews found her in stable condition but unable to continue hiking to the base of the mountain.
They were able to assist her down the rest of the way by implementing a big wheel apparatus and then transport her via ambulance to a local emergency room.
The second rescue involved a 39-year-old man who rolled his ankle near the summit of the mountain.
Crews were able to stabilize the extremity with a splint and help him down the rest of the way.
Authorities said he refused an ambulance to the hospital and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation by his family.
No firefighters were injured during the rescue.
