2 die in wrong-way crash on southbound Loop 303 in West Valley early Friday

PHOENIX – Two people died in a wrong-way crash that shut down part of Loop 303 in the West Valley early Friday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said two vehicles collided in southbound lanes between Bethany Home and Camelback roads shortly before 4 a.m.
The freeway reopened by 8:55 a.m.
DPS said they received calls about a pickup truck heading northbound in southbound freeway lanes near Indian School Road. The truck and an SUV smashed into one another a little while later.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the wrong-way vehicle died at a hospital.
The wrong-way driver was also hospitalized. Their condition is unknown.
An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
No other details were immediately available.
