East Valley officials to host Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, Festival in Mesa

PHOENIX — The city of Mesa is inviting residents and visitors to its Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Festival on Monday, officials said.
The parade is scheduled to take place in downtown Mesa from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. along Center Street to First Street and North Robson, according to a press release.
This year’s theme is “Tomorrow is Today,” with a festival following afterwards from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Main Street and South Macdonald.
Elected officials, community leaders, local organizations, the Mesa Police Department and the Mesa Fire and Medical Department will participate in the parade.
Visitors will find food, vendors and children’s activities at the festival, the release said.
Annual celebrations in Mesa were created after residents voted to establish a citywide holiday recognizing the former leadership of King in 1996.
