PHOENIX — There are not many scheduled restrictions on Valley freeways this weekend but a closure of Interstate 17 in north Phoenix will hinder drivers.
I-17 is scheduled to be closed in both directions between Northern and Peoria avenues from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for the Valley Metro light rail extension project, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a press release.
Northbound on-ramps to the highway at Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue as well as southbound on-ramps at Thunderbird and Cactus roads will also be closed.
In Tempe, the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway will be closed briefly at times overnight in both directions near Priest Drive from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday for APS overhead utility line work.

Capping the weekend in the southeast Valley, drivers should also be aware of a narrowing of the southbound/westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway beginning Sunday night at 10 p.m. in areas between Elliot and Higley roads through 5 a.m. Monday for pavement maintenance. The highway will continue to be narrowed Monday through Thursday nights during that same time period.
