14-year-old crossing street in Avondale fatally struck by vehicle

PHOENIX – A teenage boy crossing a West Valley street was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday, authorities said.
The Avondale Police Department said in an email Wednesday the 14-year-old was walking at El Mirage Road and Pima Street around 7:20 p.m. when he was hit. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the driver stayed and cooperated with officers.
Driver impairment did not appear to be a factor, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
No other details were made available.
