Arizona revenue department to hold auction of unclaimed property next week

Jan 12, 2022, 4:25 AM

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Revenue announced it will hold an auction next week of unclaimed property items from abandoned safe deposit boxes.

The auction will take place online only beginning Wednesday at 3 p.m. and lasting through Sunday until 5 p.m., according to a press release on Tuesday.

Items up for auction have not been claimed by owners after many years, the department said, with things for sale including jewelry, coins, currency, sports cards and other collectibles.

Money from selling the items will be safeguarded by the department until claimed by rightful owners who provide proper identification, including a valid photo ID or a driver’s license, or documents linking another person to the original owner with a legal right for the property.

The department said safe deposit boxes are sold “as is” and there is no warranty of any kind for the condition of the items.

Millions of dollars are returned each year by the department’s Unclaimed Property Unit, with more than $48 million being paid last fiscal year.
