PHOENIX — Another Arizona police officer has died following a battle with COVID-19, authorities announced Tuesday.
Officer Jesus “Chuy” Lara of the Casa Grande Police Department was a six-year veteran of the agency, Chief Mark McCrory said in a press release.
Lara, who also spent two years with the Gila River Police Department, is survived by his wife and three children.
“His co-workers and community members valued him for his kindheartedness and empathy when dealing with children and other victims of crime,” McCrory said.
“He touched many lives in different ways but regardless of how you knew him, he will be greatly missed.”
Lara is one of several Arizona police officers who have died of the virus in the past few months.
Chandler Police Officer Jeremy Wilkins died of COVID-19 complications in December.
Three Arizona officers died — from the Phoenix, Glendale and Bullhead City departments — of the virus during a week in August.
