PHOENIX – A man suspected of fleeing on foot after a fatal wreck in Phoenix earlier this month was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.
Detectives developed probable cause to book Luis Mendez, 26, for leaving the scene of a fatal collision, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.
Mendez was arrested by another local agency on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, police said.
He is accused of driving a sedan through a stop sign on Williams Street, just south of Lower Buckeye Road, at 75th Avenue on Dec. 11 and hitting a pickup truck.
The driver of the truck, 55-year-old Lewis Kemp, died of his injuries at the scene.
Mendez allegedly ran off before police arrived at the crash site.
