Arizona unveils 15 specialty license plates, including several options for veterans

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division unveiled 15 specialty license plates Tuesday, including several options for veterans.

The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services sponsored 11 of the plates, which are available to former military members or immediate family members of someone who has been previously issued a veterans plate.

Drivers can choose from plates with a seal from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines or Navy. There’s also an option for a plate that reads “woman veteran.”

A plate with a code talker seal, designed by contest winner Alyssa Williams of Flagstaff in 2020, is also available.

“Veterans take a lot of pride in not only their military service, but also their specific branch,” Col. Wanda Wright, ADVS director said, in a press release.

“These new license plates give veterans another way to honor their service while helping other veterans.”

MVD made two other specialty plates available with veteran ties.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars plate is available to anybody and $17 of the $25 annual cost will go to the VWF Department of Arizona Service Officers/Benefit Counselors Program.

A new veterans of foreign wars Auxiliary Arizona plate open to all will have the $17 go to provide fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable and educational support to veterans and military members and their families in state communities.

Arizona Rodeo and Make-A-Wish Arizona round out the new plates.

“We know that people who choose specialty license plates for their vehicles take pride in owning and displaying them,” MVD Director Eric Jorgensen said in the release.

“MVD is pleased that we can partner with various organizations and help raise funds that benefit Arizonans.”

Specialty plate purchases brought in about $11 million during fiscal year 2021.

Arizonans can select from more than 80 specialty plates with the new additions.
