Arrest made in hit-and-run that injured Phoenix motorcycle officer

Dec 28, 2021, 7:54 AM | Updated: 10:36 am

PHOENIX – A woman suspected of driving the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision that sent a Phoenix motorcycle officer to the hospital has been arrested, authorities said Tuesday.

Elizabeth Mia Eaton, 52, is accused of leaving the scene of a serious injury collision early Monday, the Phoenix Police Department announced.

Police said the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. when the officer was traveling east on Bethany Home Road and a minivan turned left in front of him at 26th Avenue.

Surveillance video obtained by ABC15 showed the minivan turning in front of the motorcycle and the officer flying through the air after impact. The minivan stopped briefly after the collision and then drove off, leaving the officer lying in the street.

The officer, a 16-year-veteran of the force whose name wasn’t released, required immediate surgery for a leg injury, police said.

After talking to witnesses and reviewing video and other evidence, investigators developed probable cause to arrest Eaton, police said.

She was located late Monday night near 18th and Glendale avenues.

A 2016 Dodge Journey with damage consistent with what the vehicle in the collision would have sustained was parked in her backyard near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road, police said.
