PHOENIX — Peoria’s annual Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8.

Participants can take the plunge into an unheated Centennial Pool and swim across to receive a free tee-shirt and raise awareness for water safety, according to the city’s website.

The event is free to attend, although donations are accepted. The money would go to providing children with swimming lessons, according to the website.

The Peoria Firefighter Charities are providing a hot breakfast to those who participate.

People of all ages are welcome to join.

The pool has not been heated after November, and the water is expected to be in the low 40s.

Centennial Pool is located at 8081 W Acoma Drive.

Advanced registration is required, and those interested can do so online.

We want to hear from you.
