PHOENIX — Tempe was the place to be for young people this year as it was ranked Zillow’s most popular college town in the country.

The real estate information company said Tempe, which is home to Arizona State University, has one of the largest populations of undergraduate and graduate students among all the cities that were analyzed.

Tempe also had one of the highest number of page views per Zillow’s rental listing.

Zillow ranked the most popular places in 2021 using a mix of factors including page views per listing, affordability and growth potential.

Tempe was part of a dominating year for West Coast cities.

South Lake Tahoe, California, was the most popular overall spot; Newport, Oregon was considered the most popular beach town; Calabasas, California, was the most popular small town; and Big Bear Lake, California, was the most popular vacation town.

The only East Coast city to make the list was Lavallette, New Jersey, which was determined to be the most popular retirement town.

Behind Tempe for the most popular college town was Claremont, California, home to Claremont Colleges’ seven colleges, and Narragansett, Rhode Island, where the University of Rhode Island is located.
