PHOENIX — The commander of Phoenix Police Officer Tyler Moldovan said Tuesday the 22-year-old was still fighting for his life after being shot up to eight times last week.
Brian Issitt, commander at the Desert Horizon Precinct, said he has visited Moldovan and his family in the hospital and is hoping for a miracle.
Moldovan has been in extremely critical condition and was placed on life support after the shooting, which occurred near 15th Avenue and Camelback Road just after 2 a.m. on Dec. 14.
“Tyler is still with us. He’s still fighting and we’re praying and hoping for the best right now as he continues to fight,” Issitt said during a press conference.
Moldovan, who Issitt called a “newbie,” graduated from the academy in March and had recently moved to solo officer status.
Essa Williams, 24, was booked into Maricopa County Jail last week on charges of attempted first degree murder, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person and resisting arrest.
More charges could be pending and a judge ordered Williams to be held on a $3 million cash bond.
“We’re praying for a miracle. That’s all we can really do right now,” Issitt said.
