PHOENIX — Bob and Robin Trick, the owners of renowned Tempe restaurant House of Tricks, announced their plans to retire in June 2022.

The property was sold on Wednesday, but the Tricks leased it back until June to keep the restaurant open until then, according to a press release.

Future plans for the property are “wide open,” according to the release.

House of Tricks first opened in 1987 in a remodeled 1920s cottage in downtown Tempe. It has won dozens of awards over the years, including the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence.

Its patio is uniquely decorated with green plants and flowers that give it a fresh feeling, while its menu changes seasonally.

The restaurant has been the location of proposals, weddings and fundraisers.

“As we look forward to this new chapter in our lives, we fully recognize that we could not have built such a successful business without your support and loyalty these many years,” the Tricks posted on the restaurant’s website.

“It is with deep humility and gratitude that we thank you for making our lives so full, for sharing your many happy occasions with us, and for embracing our humble beginnings in a vintage cottage with a small patio in the front that became, over the years, the place to meet friends, sip wine and eat delicious food.”

The statement says that updates on the future of the restaurant will be posted online when finalized.

We want to hear from you.
