Salvation Army seeks volunteers to prepare, serve Christmas meals in Phoenix

Dec 16, 2021, 10:18 AM

PHOENIX – The Salvation Army is looking to recruit hundreds of volunteers to prepare, serve and deliver free meals for Christmas Day in Phoenix.

“The Army is preparing to provide 7,500 meals, nearly 1,500 more than it did for its recent Thanksgiving dinner,” David Yardley, the charitable group’s metro Phoenix program coordinator, said in a press release Wednesday.

“Our Thanksgiving dinner took the efforts of around 900 volunteers, and with more meals expected to be provided on Christmas Day, we hope that the people of our generous community will consider giving a few hours of their time to help us feed the hungry to brighten their holidays.”

The Salvation Army is seeking assistance for the following roles:

  • About 100 people for kitchen prep from Dec. 20 to Dec. 25, mostly between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • 75 drivers who can use their own vehicles to help deliver 4,000 meals to homebound individuals on Christmas Day, with two-hour shifts between 9:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • 50 servers to work at the Phoenix Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Day.
  • 300 others as greeters, security, cleanup crew and ushers for the Christmas Day dinner.

Potential volunteers can sign up through The Salvation Army’s metro Phoenix website.

We want to hear from you.
