PHOENIX — Students were released early Tuesday from Tempe High School due to an investigation of a threat made on social media, authorities said.
A student reported the threat, which depicted a “concerning image,” to the school resource officer, the Tempe Police Department said in a press release.
The department responded to the school and began the investigation at 11 a.m., with students being put in a shelter in place order.
Tempe officers maintained their elevated presence on campus and assisted students departing from the school using their normal routine, the department said, and all students and staff were safe.
The incident appears to be isolated, authorities said, and the Tempe Police Department will continue to work with the Tempe Union High School District to find the responsible party.
