Early-morning fire does heavy damage to Phoenix apartment

PHOENIX – Fire destroyed an apartment balcony in Phoenix early Wednesday but no one was injured, first responders said.
The Phoenix Fire Department said five people were displaced by the blaze at a second-floor unit near 48th Street and McDowell Road.
All the occupants of the apartment had made their way safely outdoors when firefighters began their work at the large complex by 6:30 a.m.
Eastbound McDowell Road was closed between State Route 143 and 48th Street.
Cause of the fire was under investigation.
No other details were made available.
