PHOENIX — Carefree will begin the holiday season Saturday with a jubilee, the lighting of the Carefree Christmas Tree and Desert Garden as well as a holiday concert.
All taking place at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion, the Kiwanis Christmas Jubilee goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features live entertainment, carriage rides, free games and prizes, free face painting and a photo with Santa.
There will also be a pet parade and costume contest at 3 p.m., along with a drawing every hour between noon and 4 p.m. in which a total of 50 bicycles will be given away.
Directly following the jubilee is the lighting of the Carefree Christmas Tree and Desert Garden from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., accompanied by carolers and bell ringers from the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church.
People can then stick around until 7:30 p.m. for a free holiday concert featuring young talent from the area and the Desert Kickers, who will perform a few holiday dance numbers. The musical performances are produced by Kevin Glenn.
The fifth anniversary of Chanukah in Carefree also takes place Sunday at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion beginning at 5:30 p.m., where Foothills Caring Corps will be lighting the menorah and leading prayers and songs.
