Glendale officer hurt during incident with man while responding to house fire

PHOENIX — A Glendale police officer was injured during an incident with a man Tuesday evening while responding to a house fire, authorities said.
Authorities responded to a call of a fire around 5:30 p.m. at a home near Thunderbird Road and 64th Street.
A person associated with the home was outside with fire personnel when brandished a knife, the Glendale Police Department said.
After the officer attempted to stop him, the man then pulled out a knife and started stabbing himself, police said.
The officer was injured while trying to get the knife from the man, authorities said, and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man was also transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are conducting an investigation.
