PHOENIX — A lieutenant with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office working traffic control in Scottsdale was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday, authorities said.
Chad Brackman was working off-duty at 87th Street and McDowell Road when he was hit by the vehicle at about 10 a.m., MCSO Sheriff Paul Penzone said during a press conference.
Brackman was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
“We lost a very important member of our community and of the law enforcement community,” Penzone said.
Brackman, 47, was a 22-year veteran of MCSO and leaves behind a wife, two children and two stepchildren.
The driver of the vehicle, a 69-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and released later in the day, police said.
McDowell Road is shut down in both directions from Granite Reef to Pima Road due to the incident.
The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating the incident.
