Highland Prep West breaks ground on new campus in Avondale

Nov 10, 2021, 4:07 PM

PHOENIX — Highland Prep West broke ground Monday on its new campus in Avondale that will serve up to 600 students per year at full capacity.

The 42,285-square-foot facility near Van Buren Street and Fairway Drive will be Highland Prep West’s third campus in the Valley and focus on a STEM program as a college preparatory high school.

The school will feature a 175-student freshman class when it opens as expected in August 2022.

“We want to feature a comprehensive high school experience, so while we do cater to that STEM mindset and students who are interested in STEM-based careers, we definitely feel like students need to have that high school experience,” Principal Jessica Alessio told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

Alessio added that they want an immersive high school experience for those interested in extracurricular activities.

The facility will feature a full-size soccer field, basketball court and three tennis/pickleball courts.

It will also have 18 classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, chemistry lab and other amenities.

Highland Prep West’s other Valley campuses are in Phoenix and Goodyear.

“What makes us unique is we have the ability to personalize that educational experience for our students and we will start small and stay small,” Alessio said.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Taylor Tasler contributed to this report.
