PHOENIX – A fast-moving fire swept through a Phoenix apartment early Wednesday and displaced 11 people but no one was injured, first responders said.

Crews from the Phoenix Fire Department and the Glendale Fire Department responded to the blaze in a second-story unit near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after 4 a.m.

A spokesman for Phoenix Fire said a family was awakened by smoke alarms and smelled smoke inside their home. When they got out of the bed to check, they saw the flames, then called 911.

Firefighters arrived and searched the apartment for other occupants and evacuated neighbors.

Over 30 firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
