PHOENIX — The Buckeye Police Department Wednesday released information from an independent investigation of crash data gathered from the vehicle of a Phoenix man that has been missing since June.

Daniel Robinson, a 24-year-old geologist living in Phoenix, was last seen leaving a remote worksite in Buckeye near Sun Valley Parkway and Cactus Road on June 23 just after 9 a.m.

A rancher on July 19 found Robinson’s Jeep Renegade on its side in a ravine located about 3 miles southwest of the worksite.

San Tan Recon handled the investigation of the crash, commissioned by Buckeye Police in September, and issued the collision report on Oct. 18.

The report stated the Renegade was involved in a rollover crash and it was the only crash recorded on the vehicle’s internal systems.

Speed also increased right before impact, indicating a possible attempt to drive up the other side of the ravine, the report noted.

The investigation found more than 40 ignition cycles were recorded after the crash, which the report said could be from the driver attempting to restart the vehicle or use its electrical systems. However, the report said it is unclear how many cycles occurred during the tow recovery and when investigators downloaded the data.

The report also noted an 11-mile discrepancy between the crash data report and the odometer reading, but it was said that’s not considered unusual as similar discrepancies have been found by Jeep dealership service departments and other crash reconstructionists.

Buckeye police previously said the airbags were deployed and Robinson’s cellphone, wallet and keys were found at the scene.

It was also said foul play was not suspected and that Robinson was believed to be wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle rolled.

Robinson stands 5-foot-8, weighs 165 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He is missing his right hand and part of his forearm.

In the time since Robinson went missing, Buckeye police and other agencies searched more than 70 square miles by ground and air as well as near the job site and at the man’s apartment. His coworkers were also interviewed and Robinson’s financial records were reviewed with family assistance.

Robinson’s dad, David, relocated from South Carolina to Phoenix and hired a private investigator. David set up a GoFundMe account to help cover expenses.
