PHOENIX — Arizona’s first in-casino sportsbook opens at Gila River Hotels & Casinos’ Vee Quiva in the West Valley on Friday.
BetMGM Sportsbook at Vee Quiva features 25 large screen displays with a massive media wall that will show games and events from all major U.S. and international sports, according to a press release.
The sportsbook has seating for more than 100 people and includes 20 wagering kiosks with ticket writers present to assist guests with placing bets.
Vee Quiva in honor of the grand opening plans to host weekend-long entertainment, including a Q&A with NASCAR drivers Austin Dillon and Tyler Reddick from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
The ceremonial ribbon cutting for the sportsbook will be at 9:30 a.m.
A new law enacted by the Arizona Legislature and signed by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey last spring legalized sports betting beginning in September.
The move followed the U.S. Supreme Court three years ago allowing betting on sports, with more than half the states in the country jumping on board since.
BetMGM Sportsbook at Vee Quiva joins the FanDuel Sportsbook that is operated out of The Footprint Center in Phoenix. Caesars, meanwhile, plans to open a sportsbook at Chase Field early next year.
The Arizona Cardinals also plan to open a BetMGM sportsbook inside State Farm Stadium by the start of the 2022 NFL season as part of a partnership with the company.
