PHOENIX – Infrastructure is life?

In a Halloween plot twist nobody saw coming, Sen. Mitt Romney posted a GIF to social media on Thursday showing him and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema posing as characters from “Ted Lasso.”

Arizona’s Sinema has taken plenty of heat from fellow Democrats for her stance during negotiations on President Joe Biden’s social spending bill, but she’s apparently earned the Utah Republican’s respect.

Dressed as the title character coach of the wildly popular Apple TV+ series, complete with thick mustache and whistle, Romney/Lasso presents a small box, presumably filled with homemade shortbread biscuits, to Sinema/Rebecca.

Romney captioned the GIF as “Biscuits with the boss,” a recurrent motif from the show, and also tweeted a photo of the scene saying, “She’s one tough cookie.”

The bit actually wasn’t as random as it might seem. As Romney explained in a later tweet, his costume was a way of returning the favor to Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, who portrayed Romney during his “Saturday Night Live” days.

And as far as politics go, Sinema appears to be on board with that’s left of the Democrats’ social services and climate change spending plan, aka Build Back Better, which she helped squeeze from a proposed $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion.

“After months of productive, good-faith negotiations with President Biden and the White House, we have made significant progress on the proposed budget reconciliation package,” she said in a statement Thursday.

“I look forward to getting this done, expanding economic opportunities and helping everyday families get ahead.”

If passed, the legislation, in tandem with the nearly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill Sinema helped craft, would be a significant domestic achievement for Biden.

“It will fundamentally change the lives of millions of people for the better,” Biden said of the agreement.

“Let’s get this done.”
