PHOENIX – Authorities said someone shot at an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper vehicle in metro Phoenix late Wednesday.

No one was injured when a bullet hit a trooper’s patrol unit in El Mirage near 113th and Grand avenues, DPS said in a press release.

The bullet struck the driver’s side door.

An officer had gone to the area around 10:40 p.m. to check out an abandoned vehicle, the agency said. The shooting occurred several minutes later.

Multiple law enforcement departments searched for the suspect but came up empty. The area was closed to traffic for the investigation, but reopened.

The investigation continues.

No other details were made available.
