PHOENIX — A man riding a dirt bike that wasn’t approved for street use died after a collision with a Phoenix police vehicle Wednesday evening, authorities said.
Brant Antwon Deshawn, 32, was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Thursday.
Police said he wasn’t wearing a helmet when the collision with a fully marked police SUV near 39th and Sweetwater avenues occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The officer in the patrol vehicle was not injured.
Deshawn was traveling eastbound on Sweetwater and the SUV was attempting to turn left on 39th Avenue when the vehicles collided, police said.
The dirt bike wasn’t licensed for the roadway and wasn’t equipped with a headlight, police said.
