A look at 12 interesting state flags in honor of National Flag Day

The Revolutionary War-era seamstress who created the Stars and Stripes came up with a flag that eventually merited its own day, June 14. This year it falls on Tuesday.
Flag Day wasn’t always a singular national celebration. According to USflag.org, communities adopted the day over time.
The celebration was made official by President Woodrow Wilson for May 30, 1916, but three decades later President Harry Truman would set aside June 14 as National Flag Day.
We all know what the nation’s flag looks like, but maybe not so much our state flags.
We’re going to take a gander at some of the more interesting flags in the union.
