PHOENIX – A multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 17 backed up traffic in both directions near downtown Phoenix on Monday morning, authorities said.
All lanes of southbound I-17, heading east toward the airport exit, were closed at 16th Street, although traffic was able to creep by via the off-ramp and gore point, the Arizona Department of Transportation said at around 9:30 a.m.
The right lane reopened around 10 a.m. as the cleanup efforts continued.
The left lane of northbound/westbound traffic was also temporarily closed because of debris from the wreck.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, it appears a truck may have swerved to avoid hitting a semi, leading to a three-vehicle collision. Minor injuries were reported.
No other information was immediately available.
