Police identify woman in Phoenix hit-and-run incident, investigation underway

PHOENIX — An effort to find the driver involved with a fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix Saturday afternoon is underway.

Police officers responded to the area of of 59th Avenue and Palm Lane just after 3:00 p.m. regarding a woman who got hit by a vehicle, officials say.

They found 42-year-old Jeannie Garza Montoya dead in the roadway upon arrival, officials say.

The vehicle that struck her abandoned the scene but was located nearby with no occupants present.

An ongoing investigation restricted access to 59th Avenue between McDowell Road and Encanto Boulevard for several hours.

No other information was immediately available.
