PHOENIX — The United States Marshals Service Task Force has arrested a man in Yuma based on a warrant issued for his arrest on charges related to weapons violations, authorities said Friday.

Hector Alvarez was taken into custody Oct. 13 after he failed to follow the conditions of his probation, the U.S. Marshal Service Task Force said in a statement.

Authorities said Alvarez previously served jail time after a 2019 investigation revealed he had been hiding narcotics and a loaded handgun. He was granted probation, then a warrant was issued on Sept. 20 for his failure to comply with the rules of probation.

When law enforcement tried to arrest Alvarez, he fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed while ignoring traffic signals.

Following an investigation led by the Task Force, with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies, authorities found Alvarez at an apartment complex in Yuma.

CBP Air and Marine Operations aircrews were able to track Alvarez down, a move which law enforcement said allowed members the ability to safely survey the suspect and to choose the best place to serve the arrest.

“The arrest of Hector Alvarez is another example of federal and local law enforcement agencies working together, and leveraging resources, to get a dangerous person into custody,” U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said in the statement.

“Our partnership with Customs and Border Protection and other law enforcement agencies assures our ability to safely arrest these dangerous fugitives.”
