PHOENIX — A nonprofit that assists families of fallen first responders is paying off mortgages for two Phoenix firefighters who suffered line of duty deaths in 2019.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is covering the costs for the mortgages of Rick Telles and Brian Beck, the organization announced Thursday in a press release.

The gesture is part of a nationwide effort to pay off mortgages for families of 50 first responder and Gold Star families.

Telles, 44, died from occupational esophageal cancer on Jan. 17, 2019. He served 12 years with the Phoenix Fire Department.

Telles was survived by his wife, Crystal and children Clifford and Aubryn.

Beck, 31, died May 19, 2019, after a battle with a job-related malignant melanoma.

Beck, a third-generation firefighter, was an eight-year veteran with Phoenix Fire.

He was survived by his wife, Sarah, and his three children.

The move is the largest one-day mortgage payoff in Tunnel to Towers’ 20-year history.

We want to hear from you.
