PHOENIX — The North Rim at Grand Canyon National Park will transition to day-use operations only next weekend in preparation for winter.

The Grand Canyon Lodge will close for the season on Oct. 16 and visitor services will be limited, according to the National Park Service.

The North Rim Visitor Center, which is operated by the Grand Canyon Conservancy, will close the previous day at 6 p.m.

Visitors at the North Rim who explore after Oct. 16 should plan to be self-sufficient and bring enough food and water for the day.

The campground at the North Rim will continue accepting reservations through Oct. 31 and will close Nov. 1.

The entrance gate that provides North Rim access on State Route 67 will close either on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. or after the first major snow storm of the season.

The camper/general store will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the SR 67 access gate is closed.

Those traveling at the North Rim should prepared for winter driving settings and can check highway conditions by calling Arizona Highway Information at 1-888-411-7623.

We want to hear from you.
