PHOENIX — The city of Chandler will reopen the public housing wait list for low-income families on Thursday for the first time in two years.
The waitlist will remain open through noon on Oct. 14 to ensure an adequate pool of applications for when housing unit openings occur, according to a press release on Tuesday.
Those interested must create an online account and complete a pre-application, with 2,000 pre-applications being placed on the waitlist by random selection.
Pre-applications are available online or can be picked up near the dropbox on the door leading from the garage into the building at 226 S. Washington St.
People can also request pre-applications be delivered by mail by calling 480-782-3200 or sending an email to the housing department.
Once completed, the pre-applications can be submitted to the housing drop box in the garage at 226 S. Washington St., by email, mailed to Housing and Redevelopment Division at Mail Stop 101, P.O. Box 4008, Chandler, AZ 85244-4008 or by calling the housing department.
Those eligible must have a combined income that does not exceed an amount based on the number of people in the household.
Full eligibility requirements can be viewed online.
People will not have to verify any information on the pre-application, according to the release, as verification of household information will only be required during the eligibility process.
Pre-applications not selected to the waitlist will have to reapply when opened again in the future, according to the release.
The public housing program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and works to provide low-income individuals and families with affordable housing, according to the release.
