PHOENIX — A disgraced Arizona dentist was arrested again for practicing without a license and leaving two victims with severe tooth problems, authorities said Friday.

Denis Froehlich, 69, was apprehended Thursday night by Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Black Canyon City and charged with practicing dentistry without a license and aggravated assault, according to a press release.

Two victims contacted YCSO and complained that Froehlich, who claimed to be a retired dentist, charged them for dental work out of his house and left them in pain from the procedures, the sheriff’s office said.

One victim had 13 teeth removed and another had 11 faulty crowns installed. Froehlich refused to fix his errors and abandoned the victims, according to YCSO.

An investigation found that Froehlich was unlicensed and on probation for committing similar crimes in Maricopa County.

Froehlich was arrested and charged by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office in 2019 for defrauding an 86-year-old man who received faulty dental work while he was unlicensed.

His dentistry license was pulled in 2013 after refusing to cooperate with a board investigation into patient abandonment and substance abuse concerns, according to YCSO.

A search warrant of Froehlich’s house uncovered several weapons, meth and heroin items, and dental equipment.

Froehlich and Debra Lord, his wife who was also arrested, were taken to the Camp Verde Detention Center.
