1 dead after red light crash near Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa

PHOENIX — One person died Thursday morning following a crash near the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa, authorities said.
A Kia Soul traveling westbound on Broadway Road around 7 a.m. ran a red light and was struck by a BMW that was traveling northbound on the ramp leaving the freeway, according to the Mesa Police Department.
The collision caused the Kia to hit a nearby barrier wall, police said. The driver of the Kia was killed.
The driver of the BMW wasn’t injured.
The crash closed Broadway Road at the Loop 202 for about two hours, according to police.
There were no signs of impairment and no names were released pending notification of next of kin.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
