PHOENIX — A 1-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition after drowning in a pool in Phoenix on Saturday, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at a home near Indian School Road and 99th Avenue around 3 p.m. and found bystanders performing CPR on the infant, Phoenix Fire Capt. Scott Douglas said in an email.

Emergency personnel took over medical treatment and transported her to a local emergency room, Douglas said.

It isn’t known how long the child was under water.

No additional information was immediately available.
