PHOENIX — People looking to head up north for some cooler temperatures next year can begin booking reservations for a historic lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon starting Wednesday.
Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim will accept online reservations for the 2022 season covering dates ranging from May 15-31 beginning at 7 a.m., with reservations by phone available an hour later by calling (877) 386-4383.
The lodge, declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987, sits at an elevation of more than 8,000 feet just above the canyon, according to a press release.
It is surrounded by recreational activities such as hiking trails and mule rides and features a tranquil environment as the North Rim gets one-tenth of the visitation of the more popular South Rim, according to the release.
Additional dates will become available on a rolling basis at the beginning of each month through February, with dates open up to Oct. 15 of next year, according to the release.
A gift shop and dining room will also be available next season, according to the release, with hours of operation being announced at a later date.
The original lodge was built in 1928 but destroyed by a fire four years later.
It was rebuilt in 1937 using as much of the original structure as possible, according to the release.
The cabins were constructed during the 1930s and 1940s and still retain much of the rustic charm, according to the release, including having no televisions or radios.
