PHOENIX – Rangers at the Grand Canyon said Wednesday the search for a man missing for nearly three months is being scaled back.
Charles Lyon of Tyler, Texas, was last seen June 10 at a hotel in Tusayan, less than 10 miles from the South Rim, a National Park Service spokeswoman said in a press release.
Park officials believe the 49-year-old was alone when he left his vehicle near Lipan Point on June 11, the same day a ground and air search for him began.
“The search … will continue in a limited and continuous mode and will focus on public outreach and search efforts during regular backcountry patrols and regularly scheduled helicopter flights,” park rangers said.
Lyon stands 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs about 177 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. No one knows what he was wearing of if he was carrying any gear.
Rangers ask if anyone who has seen or spoken to Lyon call or text the Investigative Services Branch at 888-653-0009; online or email.
