COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities have identified a suspect who was fatally shot during an altercation with a Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy in the Cottonwood area.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says 19-year-old Ebin Lamont Proctor died Saturday from a gunshot wound.
DPS says the incident began when two deputies were conducting a traffic stop of a jeep SUV around 4 a.m.
Authorities say Proctor was one of six males, including a juvenile, in the vehicle. They say Proctor fled on foot.
A deputy pursuing him says they got into a physical fight and Proctor ended up shot.
The deputy was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.
Graves says the five other occupants in the car are also all Cottonwood area residents.
