Phoenix police officer hit by vehicle at crime scene

PHOENIX – Police in Phoenix said an officer suffered minor injuries early Thursday when a driver hit a patrol unit at a crime scene.
The driver fled the scene and remains at large, police said.
The Phoenix Police Department said officers had responded to a call of shots fired near 39th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard around 1 a.m.
The suspect had maneuvered around several police vehicles into the area under investigation, police said.
Police directed the vehicle to stop and back up. It backed up and then went forward toward, colliding with a police vehicle and an officer.
After reversing, the driver then shifted gears and went forward. The vehicle hit a police unit and struck an officer on the way out of the crime-scene area.
Police said the injured officer was taken to a hospital and released.
The department did not provide d a description of the driver or the vehicle.
Police did arrest a suspect in the gunfire incident. That man will be booked on weapons violations.
