Red Mountain Freeway reopens at SR 143 after fatal motorcycle wreck

PHOENIX – The Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway heading from Phoenix into the East Valley was closed for over an hour Monday after a fatal motorcycle wreck, authorities said.
All eastbound traffic was diverted onto southbound State Route 143 starting around 11 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The highway reopened around 12:30 p.m.
Motorists weren’t permitted to reenter Loop 202 until Priest Drive during the closure.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email that a motorcyclist was killed in a one-vehicle crash between 52nd Street and Priest Drive.

Witnesses told DPS troopers the rider may have been racing another vehicle when it went down.
